Lea-Ann Germinder, APR, Fellow PRSA
is president & founder of Germinder & Associates, Inc., a New York City based public relations firm and publisher of niche digital platforms that was originally founded in Kansas City, Missouri.
As a native Long Islander, she now blends her twenty plus year career in the Midwest with the high energy of New York City to create award-winning campaigns in several industry categories for national brands. She’s known as a leader who asks, “What’s Next?” and challenges her teams to create experiential campaigns.
Germinder’s entrepreneurial spirit combined with her knowledge and knack for award-winning public relations campaigns including the iconic “Pets Need Dental Care, Too” for a division of Colgate, led her to launch Germinder & Associates, Inc. in 1998. A hallmark of Germinder’s career has been successfully partnering brands with associations and influentials.
Her interest in leveraging the Internet early on led to the creation of the groundbreaking Goodnewsforpets.com website in 2000, one of the very first web sites to educate pet owners about issues in veterinary medicine. She has reinvented the site several times and in 2014 successfully rebranded it under the gnfp moniker.
Germinder began her career as a marketing coordinator at a sales promotion agency with incentive company E.F. MacDonald, now Carlson, working on such brands as AT&T, First Bank Systems, Northwest Airlines, and Merrill Lynch. Her development work included campaigns for the Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the River Corridor.
She later formed a consultancy working with companies in the pet industry including the launch of the hydroponically-grown aquatic plant market and worked with the U.S. office of an international trade group, Ornamental Fish International (OFI) on trade ban and related issues.
Later agency work has included national media and educational campaigns for clients Unilever, Helzberg Diamonds, J.C. Nichols Real Estate, Sprint, NFL Quarterback Club, Cramer Products Sports Medicine and many others.
Pet industry and veterinary profession clients have included all sectors of the profession with clients such as Zoetis, a former division of Pfizer, Hill's Pet Nutrition, a division of Colgate, Ceva Animal Health, a subsidiary of Ceva Santé Animale, the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) among others.
She and her teams have won dozens of awards, including the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Silver Anvil Award of Excellence. Other awards include the American Animal Hospital Association's Gold Key Award. She has won three Business Marketing Association Fountain Awards.
Germinder has been active mentoring young professionals, in particular women and minority students and young professionals through her Germinder Giving Back programs. She was named a national Honoree for Enterprising Women and was named Top 25 "Women Who Mean Business" by the Kansas City Business Journal and the Kauffman Foundation.
She has provided pro bono consulting throughout her career most recently to the Women’s Veterinary Leadership Development Initiative to encourage women to assume leadership positions in veterinary medicine.
Germinder is an accredited Fellow of PRSA, a past president of the PRSA New York City and Kansas City chapters, a member of the PRSA Counselor’s Academy, a former PRSA Midwest District Chair, and former PRSA Tri-State Chair-Elect.
