PRSSA and The CW Network Announce Winners of a Nationwide PR Challenge on College Campuses

Georgia College & State University Takes First and Second Place, and Roger Williams University Takes Third Place in The CW Campaign to Promote “90210” and “Melrose Place”

NEW YORK (Nov. 23, 2009) — The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and The CW Network announce top honors for a nationwide public relations challenge that offered PRSSA college students across the country the opportunity to gain experience in the world of television publicity.

The CW Campaign required teams to research, plan, implement and evaluate a public relations campaign targeting women ages 18–34, and to promote The CW’s Tuesday night line-up of “90210” and “Melrose Place” on their college campuses during the month of October. Teams were judged on campaign creativity and execution.

Michael Steger of “90210” was present at the PRSSA National Conference Awards Ceremony in San Diego on Nov. 9, and announced top honors to the first place and second place teams from Georgia College & State University and the third place team from Roger Williams University.

Highlights from the first place team’s campaign, titled “Ladies Lawn Night,” include promotion of its themed event through social media to draw students to an outdoor screening, a fashion show inspired by “90210” and “Melrose Place,” a live musical performance and a breast cancer awareness information booth. The winning team receives a summer internship for one team member with The CW’s publicity department.
