The Counselors to Higher Education
(CHE) section of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) will present its 2012 Advocate for Higher Education Award to Swarthmore College
President Rebecca Chopp
at its Counselors to Higher Education Senior Summit
on April 25 in Washington.
Chopp also has been bestowed the honor of delivering the summit’s prestigious Pat Jackson Lecture.
“Throughout her distinguished career, President Chopp has respected institutional culture, listened to her constituents, communicated prolifically and made those who worked for or with her feel responsible for success,” said Charlie Melichar, chair of CHE and associate vice-chancellor at Vanderbilt University. “She is deserving of this honor for her understanding of public relations as being integral to leadership, her support for senior communicators and her record of extraordinary accomplishment.”
CHE is the premier professional community of senior public relations counselors who serve colleges and universities. CHE established the annual Advocate for Higher Education Award in 2009 to recognize leaders who have effectively used strategic communication and public relations to advance the mission of higher education. The Pat Jackson Lecture was established by CHE in 2007 to honor the memory of Jackson, a pioneer and leader in the field of public relations.
The PRSA 2012 CHE Senior Summit, “Strategic Investment: Demonstrating the Impact,” will give public relations professionals in the academic community an opportunity to connect with colleagues and industry thought leaders, share effective communications strategies, and gain practical insights for addressing the modern communication challenges facing colleges and universities today.
