Kevin Waetke Elected to PRSA National Board and Scott W. Thornburg Selected to Serve as Ex-Officio Senior Counselor

New York, December 21, 2016 - The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)’s Board of Directors voted to approve the Executive Committee’s recommendation of Kevin Waetke, APR, to fill the vacant board position for the Midwest District.

“I am excited to welcome Kevin Waetke, APR, to the PRSA National Board of Directors,” said Jane Dvorak, APR, Fellow PRSA, chair of the Society for 2017. “Waetke will bring a wide range of expertise on the issues facing communications professionals and will be instrumental as we advance the Society’s implementation of our new Strategic Plan.”

Kevin Waetke, APR, vice president, strategic communications, National Pork Board, Des Moines, Iowa, was selected to the PRSA board in a special election to replace the vacant Midwest District Board Position. Waetke joins the full slate of national board representatives approved by the PRSA Leadership Assembly in October.

Scott W. Thornburg selected to Join Ray Kotcher on PRSA National Board Ex-Officio as Senior Counselor:
Scott W. Thornburg, a member of Oracle's marketing communications team, was selected by Dvorak to serve as a Counselor to the PRSA National Board of Directors. Thornburg will serve ex-officio and as a special non-voting member of the Board in 2017. Scott joins Ray Kotcher, Fellow PRSA in this capacity.

“We have sought to address the transition to a millennial workforce,” said Dvorak. “Scott is the perfect person to help us address that need. PRSA Senior Counselors are selected and engaged for the insights and access they can provide to help us grow our member base, address professional growth opportunities and meet gaps in our Society that we might not otherwise notice. I could not possibly think of two better people than Ray and Scott to give us a broad-view perspective.”

Thornburg’s background and impact encompasses a broad scope of marketing and communications experience. Prior to Oracle, he was tapped by two marketing firms, Eastwick (acquired by HotwirePR Fall 2016) and Red Square Agency to work with companies such as Cirque du Soleil, Dell Software, ExxonMobil, Google, lynda.com, Nasdaq and more.

Thornburg is a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) with a degree in journalism and an emphasis in public relations. He served as Chapter president of USM’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), and later served as the vice president of career services for the 2010-2011 PRSSA National Committee. Additionally, he has served on the New Professionals Section executive committee as a PRSSA Liaison, and has been an active member and board member of the PRSA Silicon Valley Chapter since 2013.
