PRSA Foundation Awards Ansgar Zerfass 2015 Jackson Jackson and Wagner Behavioral Science Prize
Atlanta, GA (Nov. 9, 2015) — Professor Ansgar Zerfass from the University of Leipzig, Germany, has been named the winner of the 2015 Jackson Jackson & Wagner Behavioral Science Prize, awarded by the PRSA Foundation.
The award, established by JJ&W in 1991, recognizes leadership in behavioral science research and its application to public relations practice. It encourages public relations practitioners to apply such research in their work. The award is funded annually by an endowment contributed to the PRSA Foundation by JJ&W; it includes a $1,500 honorarium and travel expenses to support presentation of his research at the PRSA 2015 International Conference in Atlanta, GA.
In announcing the award, Dr. David Michaelson, the selection committee chair, said: “Ansgar Zerfass received the award for his contribution to the body of knowledge in the application of behavioral sciences to public relations. The award was based on his extensive record of publications in the field and his recognition among his peers and among the professional community.”
“It is a great honor to be recognized by the PRSA Foundation as an eminent scholar,” Zerfass said. “Even more, the recognition of applied research conducted across several countries and continents underlines the growing internationalization of the field. Behavioral science is universally applicable and helps us to understand the contribution of communication to organizational excellence and societal needs. I accept this award on behalf of many co-researchers involved in joint studies in Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas."
Ansgar Zerfass is a professor and chair in Strategic Communication at the University of Leipzig, Germany, and professor in Communication and Leadership at BI Norwegian Business School, Oslo, Norway. He serves the academic community as president of the European Public Relations Education and Research Association, Brussels, and editor of the International Journal of Strategic Communication, published by Routledge. He holds a degree and doctorate in business administration and a habilitation (second doctorate) in communication science. He has published 32 books and more than 270 journal articles, book chapters and study reports so far in the areas of corporate communication, measurement and evaluation, digital communication, and international communication. Zerfass has initiated a global series of (bi-)annual empirical studies covering public relations practices in more than 80 countries, namely the European, Latin American and Asia-Pacific Communication Monitor.
Zerfass, recipient of many awards and honors for his academic and professional work, is ranked among the top 5 most cited international researchers in the fields of public relations, corporate communication and strategic communication each by Google Scholar.
