“For more than three decades, Carol has used her tremendous public relations, advocacy and strategic communication skills to serve her local community in Corpus Christi,” said PRSA 2013 Chair and CEO, Mickey G. Nall, APR, Fellow PRSA. “Through her leadership and willingness to give back to her community, Carol has truly made a difference in many nonprofit and government organizations and I’m privileged to present her with this special honor.”
Kailo Communications Studio is a Corpus Christi, Tex. based public relations firm representing clients in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, shipping, refining, trade associations, financial, retail and government. Scott has worked as a sole practitioner and small agency owner since 1995, following positions with the American Heart Association and the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority.
Scott is serving her second term on the Board of Trustees for the Corpus Christi Independent School District and currently is in her second term as president of the Board. She also serves on the President’s Leadership Council for Texas A&M University - Kingsville. Previously, Scott served as president of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce; Leadership Corpus Christi; the Texas A&M University - Kingsville “Javelina” Alumni Association; and the Texas Public Relations Association; among others.
“My business partner and I believe that integrating a service ethos into our work is essential to who we are as professionals and as individuals,” Scott said. “We built our business on an understanding of the quality of life opportunities that are at the core of every community and our clients benefit from our ability to help them engage in those opportunities.”
“I am truly humbled by this honor and thank my colleagues at Kailo for their support of my service to the community,” she added.
The Paul M. Lund Award is named for the late AT&T vice president of public relations and employee communications, who served the company in the early 1970s. Lund was known not only as an accomplished leader in the field of public relations, he was also a community leader who made extraordinary commitments to public service outside of his work.
